Porsche confirms 7 speed manual for forthcoming 911

American reports indicate that Porsche has developed a new 7 speed manual transmission for the upcoming 911 sports car.

The intention of the 7-speed manual is to cut-down engine noise and improve fuel economy by a longer seventh gear.

Porsche engineers have altered the gear ratios but says the first six gears will match the current 6 speed ratios. The next-generation Porsche 911 will debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
