A man from Indiana was stopped on Interstate 94 near Chelsea, MI with the possession of cocaine and this was no small amount either, we're talking about 104kg (229lbs) worth stowed in his ute.
The 87 year old, named locally as Leo Sharp, told a judge he was forced at gunpoint to take the drugs to a disclosed location. The drugs had a street value of $3m (£1.8m/€2.1m). Sharp was initially pulled over by a state trooper for to tailgating. After refusing to have his truck searched, a sniffer dog was called and found the drugs in black bin bags, stowed in the bed of the ute.
Sharp’s laywer, Ray Richards, conceded that “this will be my first actual drug case where the accused is this old.”
According to Sharp, he runs a legal exotic plant store in Michigan. If convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, he could be sentenced to 10 years in prison.
