Spied: 2013 Ford Transit Connect

The new Ford Transit Connect compact commercial van has been spied for the very first time, undergoing chassis testing in Austria.

Draped in thick disguise, it’s clear to see that the prototype is sporting a car-like design. Although the test car features a roof-hinged tailgate, a pair of side-hinged doors will be offered.

Numerous variants will be offered, including a Tourneo Custom five-seater model and a Custom two-seater commercial van. The cabin will be constructed from hardwearing materials, although visual design of the dashboard will likely be borrowed from the Fiesta supermini.

Although technical details remain scares, European models will be powered by turbocharged petrol and diesel engines with U.S models powered solely by petrol engines. For the record, the outgoing model has been in production since 2002.

We expect the Transit Connect to premiere at the Paris motor show in September.
