JLR has ruled out that the Range Rover Evoque will not have a hybrid system, in spite of the LRX concept featuring electrically driven rear wheels as part of an ultra green 4x4 set-up.
The hybrid technology will instead be featuring in JLR’s forthcoming Discovery and Range Rover's, John Edwards, Land River’s global brand executive said in a statement.
He claimed that the front-wheel-drive Evoque with a 2.2 litre TD4 will emit less than 130g/km and return over 50mpg combined, matching earlier LRX hybrid targets.
Edwards said: “Our approach to Evoque is more viable for the company and customers because hybrid technology on a relatively small car would load the price and add weight. That technology is better suited to larger cars, probably from Discovery upwards. Our engineers have done a great job reducing weight on Evoque.
