Chrysler LLC has released the first teaser photos of the new Dodge Dart compact, ahead of its world debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.
The Dart, a nameplate resurrected from the 1960s, is the first Chrysler Group model to be based on a Fiat platform, using a tweak Alfa Romeo Giulietta architecture named Compact U.S. Wide (CUSW).
Dodge claims that 68% of the Dart's bodyshell is constructed from high-strength steel, resulting in a “very strong and rigid structure”.
The engine line-up for the Dart consists of three new 4-cylinder petrol engines; a Tigershark 2.0 litre, a 1.4 litre MultiAir Turbo engine, and a new Tigershark 2.4 litre MultiAir engine. These will be linked to either a newly-developed 9-speed ZF automatic transmission, Fiat-sourced 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, and a 6-speed manual, allowing for an EPA highway rating of 40mpg.
A split-crosshair grille and Dodge Charger-inspired LED tail-lights will feature. The 2013 Dart sedan will be manufactured in Belvidere, Illinois.
