Spied: 2014 Mini Traveller

Mini has begun publicly testing its new upcoming sub-compact premium MPV, dubbed Traveller, in Austria.

Using a Countryman Cooper S as a test-bed, the bright red test mule is distinguished by over-sized wheelarches and a longer wheelbase.

Not much is known about the upcoming model, codenamed F58, but a concept is expected to debut ahead of the official launch under the ‘Spacebox’ name.
The Traveller will be offered in five-seat and seven-seat
guises and will slot above the Countryman in the Mini line-up.
As such, expect to pay more than £18,000 (€22,300) when it
goes on sale.

The idea of the Traveller comes from customers wanting a larger, more flexible vehicle with Mini's iconic traits.

The production model will be Mini’s largest vehicle yet, as it will be wider, taller, and longer than the current Countryman. Inside, we anticipate a funky-themed, practical interior with numerous innovative features.

The Traveller will underpin BMW’s new ‘UKL’ front-wheel-drive platform and is expected to be powered by a series of direct-injection engines, including a turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol unit.

Sales will commence sometime in early 2014.
