Consumer Reports has criticised the Toyota Prius C supermini after taken it for a spin.
Although based on the new Yaris, the platform was described as lacklustre. The Prius C is powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine, which combined with an electric motor, produces 99bhp (100PS/74kW).
CR gave the hybrid supermini a score 53 points out of 100 and marked the model down for its “harsh ride, noisy engine and cabin, and slow acceleration make it feel more like an econobox than a sophisticated hybrid.”
Also factored in was the dead steering and poor interior quality and because of the shortfalls “we can’t recommend the Prius c because it scores too low in our tests.”
CR gave the Prius C high marks for its “excellent” fuel economy and expects the models “to have very good reliability.”
It seems like that the public has ignored CR advise as the model has been a strong seller for Toyota.
