Spied: 2013 Ford Mondeo/Fusion

Spies have caught up with the fourth-generation Ford Mondeo/second-generation Fusion outside a Ford facility in Michigan.

Like every other Ford model, the newcomer will be sold globally, under different nameplates. Europe, Australia, Russia and Asia will receive the Mondeo badge, while North America, South America, and the Middle-East will receive the Fusion.

The mid-sized family car will underpin the modified EUCD platform, that's used by the current Mondeo, and will boast coupé-esque styling, thanks to a sloping roof line and upswept window line.

Larger and lighter than the current model, European models will be powered by a range of naturally-aspirated and turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, including the notable 2.0 litre EcoBoost. A plug-in hybrid will be offered and according to leaked documents, it will be called “Fusion Energi”, which should achieve an EPA-rating of over 60mpg combined.

The Mondeo/Fusion will hit outlets in mid-2012 as a 2013 model.
