Volkswagen Polo becomes best-selling car in Europe (EU)

While the future of car sales in Europe looks bleak for most manufacturers, a few are rejoicing thanks to increased sales, especially Volkswagen.

The German brand's B-Segment contender, the Polo supermini, became the best-selling car in Europe for 2011.

Launched in 2009, the fifth generation Polo is currently built in seven locations across Europe, Africa, South America, China, India, and Russia.

“After a very successful 2010, 2011 proved to be an outstanding year for the Polo once again. To be the number 1 in the supermini segment all across Europe demonstrates strikingly that the Polo is first choice for many customers. In Western Europe alone, more than 340,000 vehicles were sold,” says Xavier Chardon, Head of Sales Europe of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand.
