Ferrari have begun testing the replacement to the Enzo at a secret test track in Germany.
Engineers have used the 458 Italia as a test mule for the Enzo II, codenamed F70, and some fake panels, although the mechanicals are from the F70.
According to Motor Trend, the F70 will be powered by a tweaked mid-engined 789bhp (800PS/588kW) 6.2 litre V12 borrowed from the F12 Berlinetta as engineers pitch the newcomer against the French-made Bugatti Veyron. An additional 118bhp (120PS) will also be available from the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) that has been derived from their Formula 1 race car, which can be used to assist the petrol engine or allow for short-distance zero-emissions driving.
A low kerb-weight of 1,157kg (2,550lbs) will be achieved by a aluminium chassis and carbon-fibre shell that will allow for a 0-62mph (0-100km/h) time of less than 2.5 seconds and an anticipated top speed in excess of 254mph (408 km/h).
Rumour has it that the F70 will be shown to selected Ferrari clients this year before bowing at the 2013 Geneva motor show.
