Fourteen men busted for stolen car export

U.S agents are about to close an intense investigation regarding a spate a car thefts that started on 9th July 2008.

According to The National Post, it all started when Jason Hana hired a Dodge Journey in Michigan, then gave the car to Adnan Hana, who drove it into Canada. Jason followed Adnan into Canada in a second car, but only to return together on the same day in a single car, leaving the Dodge in Canada.

“The organization would go to any of the national car rental chains and rent usually higher-end sedans or SUVs and then, we allege, drive the vehicles into Canada, just posing as tourists,” said Brian Moskowitz, special agent in charge for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

Other high-end cars included the Ford Taurus
A fortnight later, Jason reported the Journey stolen in Detroit, Michigan. This activity occurred for a few years, taking place in many cities. Some suspects remain on the run but agents believe the ring leader was Adnan Hana, who is in custody.

A few vehicles made it to Iraq but upto five vehicles were found in Canadian ports before heading to Iraq with a planned stop in Turkey.

“These individuals used their real names when renting the vehicles,” said Moskowitz. “If a person is saying the car was stolen in Detroit and we have records showing it entered Canada but we have no record of it coming back, then it gets suspicious.”

Several suspects have already been arrested.
