Spied: 2013 Nissan Altima

Nissan accidentally revealed a pre-production version of the fifth-generation Altima mid-sized family car in a online video. The video, which has now been removed, highlighted 30 years of engineering efforts at its North American Technical Centre.

The Altima's design has been described as “innovative” with a “bold design”, however, spy photos show that the car will feature evolutionary styling with angular headlights, a chrome grille, and swoopy character lines.

Forward-momentum will come from a tweaked four-cylinder and V6 units, carried over from the outgoing model, to provide better fuel economy and power. The Altima Hybrid, launching in 2013, will use a in-house produced system that sees a supercharged 2.5 litre engine married to an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Add a new Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and performance will be similar to the 3.5 litre V6.

The 2013 Altima will debut at the New York International Motor Show in early April before going on sale in late Summer.
