Spied: 2014 Cadillac CTS

The current Cadillac CTS, an anomaly in the mid-sized luxury segment, spanning the space between compact executive sedans and mid-sized executive sedans, is fast approaching its mid-cycle refresh, but instead of giving the current CTS a facelift, the American marque is preparing its third-generation CTS sedan.

Spied somewhere in the U.S, the next CTS will be longer than the current model - thanks to the recently-introduced ATS compact premium sedan - allowing engineers to stretch the car.

The 2014 CTS will continue with Cadillac's Art and Science design language with angular headlamps, a prominent grille, and clean surfaces. The front overhang is short but the extended rear overhang allows for more presence and increased luggage room.

Based on the Alpha platform, the base engine is expected to develop around 350bhp (355PS/261kW), thanks to turbocharging. The current six-speed automatic will be replaced by an eight-speeder, driving the rear wheels.

Expect sales to kick-off in late 2013.
