Chevrolet has refreshed most of its North American line-up, with the exception of the dated Impala sedan. So time has come to drop GM's advance 3.6 litre V6 petrol engine and a 6 speed automatic into the Impala for 2012, to replace the previous 3.5 litre and 3.9 litre V6 petrol engines and 4 speed automatic. Before you ask, it keeps its old “W” platform, that dates back to 1988.
A replacement for the Impala was originally intended for launched this year on a rear-wheel-drive platform, but the dire market situation forced Chevrolet to axe those plans, so expect a launch sometime in 2015.
“There’s no doubt that the Impala is longer in the tooth than we would traditionally run a vehicle,” Rick Scheidt, executive director of marketing, said.
