Forthcoming Volkswagen Passat may spawn convertible variant

If Volkswagen wants to become the world's largest car maker by 2018, it's going to have to expand its product line-up rapidly.

With several possible European Passat variants being discussed, including a pseudo 4x4, cue the Passat coupe and convertible variants. Although details are undefined, the vehicle would compete with the upcoming Opel/Vauxhall Calibra.

The next-generation Euro Passat due sometime in 2014 and will be lighter, more luxurious, and larger than the current model.
