Volvo rules out large executive sedan

Swedish/Chinese based/owned Volvo has said it has no intention of competing in the large executive sedan sedan, according to CEO Stefan Jacoby.

“It’s too early for us to enter that segment,” he said, “so it’s not in our mid or long-term plans. We won’t build anything larger than the [Chinese] S80 L.”

Last week saw Volvo premier a new large sedan, called Universe. The showcar was tipped to preview a new model but instead hints at Volvo new design language. Volvo has let slip on a few details about the upcoming Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA). Planned to provide the bases of the S40 to the S80 L, the new structure is penned to be unveiled at the forthcoming Frankfurt motor exhibition.
