According to reports from the U.S, McLaren will be developing a range of different cars and variants. The first vehicle to arrive, in 2013, is codenamed 'P12' and will succeed the 1993 F1 to rival hypercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador and the now non-production Bugatti Veyron.
This should produce around 800bhp (789PS/597kW) and weigh similar to that of the MP4-12C, thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium. Expect more aerodynamic and electronic equipment.
A year later, we will see the codenamed P13, which will compete with the Audi R8 V10 and Porsche 911 Turbo. Each model will also have assorted variants; the 12C has the GT3 racing variant, and an open top is on the designing board. Sheriff insists that all new cars “will be true McLarens. Everything we do will have performance and handling that’s the best in its segment.”
The firm expects to built 2,500 P13s and 200 P12 per annum as it has an annual capacity of 4,000 units.
