New Car: 2012 Mercedes SLK55 AMG

Official photos of the Mercedes SLK55 AMG have surfaced onto the web, ahead of its premier next month.

Externally, the AMG treatment consists of a bespoke bodykit, tinted headlights, large alloys wheel, a rear diffuser, quad exhaust pipes, and lowered suspension. Inside, you'll find plenty of silver accents, leather, and a pair of sports seats.

The SLK55 AMG is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.5 litre V8 that produces 422bhp (416PS/315kW) and 540Nm (398lb-ft) of torque. The U.S model will be detuned to produce 415bhp (409PS/309kW) and 539Nm (398lb-ft) of torque. This is mated to a 7-speed AMG SpeedShift automatic gearbox that features three modes (sport, manual and efficiency). To enhance fuel economy, the V8 engine features cylinder deactivation.

The SLK55 AMG will reach 62mph (100km/h) in 4.6 seconds before topping out at an electronically limited 155mph (250km/h). This allows for a combined fuel economy figure of 33.2mpg (8.5l/100km) and CO2 emissions of 195g/km.

The newcomer will go on sale in the U.S in Spring 2012.
