Spies have snapped the upcoming Mercedes GL SUV wearing its thinnest disguise yet. The GL was caught heading back into Mercedes' R&D centre in Stuttgart after undergoing chassis testing.
The GL will boast a similar external design to the recent
ML, with a dual bar chrome grille, large wheelarches, and wraparound headlights and tail-lights. The interior will feature seven full-sized seats with the cabin mirroring the smaller
ML.
Power will come from four engines; two petrols and two diesels. On the petrol front is an entry-level 402bhp (408PS/300kW) 4.7 litre V8 which will be joined by a larger 5.5 litre MoVe naturally-aspirated V8, dubbed GL550. A 255bhp (258PS/190kW) 3.0 litre V6 CDI will feature, alongside a larger 4.0 litre V8 CDI. And since the GL will be lighter than its predecessor, the GL320 CDI is expected to have CO2 emissions of less than 200g/km.
A range-topping
GL63 AMG will arrive later on, equipped with a twin-turbo 5.5 litre V8 petrol, that will produce 518bhp (525PS/386kW) and 700Nm (516lb-ft) of torque. Sales will start next year.
