A certain Honda model still remains popular with a certain group of people. Here's your first clue; It's large, comfortable, reliable, has high demand for parts, and has poor security. Any guesses yet?
Well the second clue is this car has remained at the top-spot for three consecutive years as the most stolen vehicle in the United States.
The car in question is a 1994 MY Honda Accord according to the current findings of The National Insurance Crime Bureau [NCIB]. The non-profit organisation expressed that the reasons can be established in the car’s weak security systems and demand for used parts. According to data from the FBI, around 52,000 Accords were stolen last year. Honda also takes second place, with the 1995 Civic, while the 1991 Toyota Camry sits at #3.
The NCIB said that Honda, Toyota and Acura have held the top three positions since 2000. Overall, car crime has fallen in 2010 dropping to 1967 levels, thanks to advanced security systems.
"Preliminary 2010 FBI crime statistics point to a further 7.2 percent reduction over the thefts posted in 2009," said the NCIB in a statement. "Should the preliminary numbers hold when the FBI produces its final statistics later this year, 2010 will post the fewest vehicle thefts since 1967".
