Fiat has said that it intends to replace both the
Patriot and
Compass compact SUV's with a single compact crossover in 2013. We also know that Fiat is going to replace the
Bravo compact family car with a compact crossover, like the Nissan
Qashqai and Peugeot
3008.
Heavily restyled last year, both models answer for a quarter of Jeep sales for the first seven months of 2011. The
Patriot/
Compass successor will end the confusion for customers as both Jeep models contend in the same market, despite differences in their styling.

Two crossovers, one origin: the Fiat model will be a
road-focused model while the Jeep model will be
more of a mud-plugging machine |
The upcoming model will share its structure and technology with Alfa Romeo's compact crossover, provisionally called Kamal, although this nameplate is expected to be used on a BMW
X5 competitor. Like the
Patriot and
Compass models, the newcomer will sit on a front-wheel-drive platform and will offer all-wheel-drive, which should offer a pedigree of off-road capability.
The new Jeep crossover will be produced in Toluca, Mexico for the American and Latin American market, while European production will commence in Italy.
