Chevrolet starts Sonic production (U.S)

Chevrolet has commenced production of the Sonic supermini, following its premier at the NAIAS in Detroit, at its Orion Township factory to replace the ill-fated Aveo. Surprisingly, the Sonic is the only American-made car in its segment.

Production will increase over time, although GM has refused to comment when the plant will run at full capacity. The first batch of Sonic's will arrive at dealerships in Autumn.

The Sonic was designed in South Korea, with many components to be imported from there and some engines to be imported from Mexico. Soon, parts for the Sonic will come from North American suppliers says GM.
