Mercedes kills-off SL65 AMG

Mercedes has quietly killed-off the range-topping SL65 AMG, ahead of the next-generation, due in 2013. The moves comes as the German marque axed the SL600, again, to make way for the next-generation SL.

The SL65 AMG sported a wild twin-turbo 6.0 litre V12 petrol engine that produced 604bhp (612PS/450kW) and 1,000Nm (737lb-ft) of torque.

The death of the SL65 AMG raises concerns on whether the 6.0 litre V12 will live on, as stricter fuel-economy regulations loom ever-nearer.
