Fiat will drop its 0.9 litre TwinAir petrol engine into the Alfa Romeo MiTo and Fiat Punto Evo, in order to offer more engine variety. If you're not aware, the small-capacity TwinAir debuted in the 500.
The small engine displacement allows the TwinAir engine to produce 85bhp (84PS/63kW), using a unique valve management system and a turbocharger, which provides plenty of low-end torque.
Both entry-level engines in the MiTo and Punto Evo won't be replaced as the new engine is seen a premium option. Stop/start and an 'Eco' button will feature, with the latter altering throttle input to allow for optimal fuel economy. Fuel economy will increase with CO2 output decreasing, despite the additional 15% power output.
